Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS THERAPY?
Therapy (or counseling, which is usually used interchangeably) is a mental health service provided by a licensed clinician. Clients see therapists for a wide range of issues of different severity. This can include anxiety, insomnia, relationship or family issues. Nikole is a systemic therapist and values a client’s relationships and environment.
WHO IS BIG EASY THERAPY?
Big Easy Therapy is a small, private therapy office servicing the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan area. Lead by Nikole Dominique-Maikell, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, BETNOLA delivers systemic couple, family, and individual therapy.
Less than 10 miles from downtown New Orleans, Big Easy Therapy offices are conveniently across the Mississippi River in Terrytown, LA. We offer therapy both in person in Terrytown and virtually using secure telehealth services for residents through out Louisiana.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS AND BENEFITS OF THERAPY?
Clients report marked improvement in work productivity, co-worker relationships, family relationships, partner relationships, emotional health, overall health, social life, and community involvement. (www.aamft.org)
After receiving treatment, almost 90% of clients report an improvement in their emotional health, and nearly two-thirds report an improvement in their overall physical health (www.aamft.org)
Studies suggest that therapy involving only one partner can lead to the dissolution of the relationship instead of improving it.
Changes in relationship patterns that may result from family therapy may produce unpredicted and/or possibly adverse responses from other people in the client’s social system.
A result of family therapy may be a realization on the part of the client that there are issues that may not have surfaced prior to the onset of the counseling relationship.
WHAT DO SESSIONS LOOK LIKE?
Therapy sessions are unique to the client(s) and goals of treatment. These may include managing symptoms of past traumatic experiences or building trust after an affair. During your work with Nikole you may talk about specific strong emotions (anger, sadness, happiness, love). When or if you are overwhelmed during a therapy session, Nikole will assist you in remaining grounded and managing your emotions.
WHAT DOES THERAPY COST?
All sessions (individual, couples or family) are $120 per hour.
Limited Time of Service discounts are available.
Nikole is in-network with many insurance policies including Commercial Employer, EAP (Employee Assistance Program), and Louisiana Medicaid.
